Ajouré-cut oxidized sterling silver elements, highlighted with 14K and 18k gold and a subtle diamond accent, creates striking negative space. The asymmetrical composition and extended drop evoke an effortless sophistication, drawing the eye down in a graceful line that flatters and elongates the neckline.
A hand-carved fossilized coral segment adds tactile warmth, its linear texture evoking windswept sands and ancient coastlines. Ancient Romans believed that aquamarine was mermaid's treasure, and aqua crystals that washed ashore had been blessed by the sea god Neptune. Aqua marina * is Latin for "seawater". Aquamarine can also represent happiness, hope, tranquility, clarity, and harmony.
It is a wearable sculpture—designed not only to adorn, but to endure.
Design:
This necklace is made from oxidized sterling silver, 14k rose gold and 18k yellow gold.
The metalwork on this necklace has Ajouré elements, or a pattern cut out of the metal. I first create a hollow domed shape in sterling silver. This allows a larger forms to be light weight. Gold pieces are soldered onto the silver forms to compliment and enhance the shapes.
The aquamarines and coral are bezel set. My custom bezels are handmade specifically for each individual stone. The key features of my bezels are the hand cut notches that are placed asymmetrically into the bezel as an added signature detail. The stone is completely surrounded on all sides by metal.
